Elvis Presley Idol Fleece Afghan Throw Blanket New GiftReviewsQuite surprised by the size when it arrived. It was much thinner than I expected. Not a high quality item. Three stars for cheaply made. The picture of Elvis is great, however, the blanket is much thinner than I expected. It is very lightweight and is more for looks than function. I gave this as a christmas gift to a family member out of town and haven't actually seen it but the person who got it really loves it. Very pleased with this throw. It is alot larger than I expected. The picture on the throw is very detailed and colorful. Also, the throw is very soft. Very thin blanket, but the photo quality is good enough. Price I think is reasonable for product. Fast shipping from merchant. Average Rating:![]() |

"Rock - n - Roll Theatre" - Poster Collage - Includes: Bob Marley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Axel Rose, Elvis, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles and many moreReviewsTHIS IS A GREAT POSTER. WHY ISNT THERE SOMETHING THAT TELLS YOU THE NAMES OF THE ARTISTS ,LIKE IN HIS OTHER POSTERS LIKE "AFTER HOURS IN THE AFTER HOURS". IF THERE IS SOMEBODY THAT KNOWS WHERE TO FIND THE NAMES FOR THIS POSTER PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS REVIEW. GLENN This is a very captivating poster, essentially documenting the history of rock 'n' roll, but there should be a key to the artists pictured in the collage included with the poster.....or at least published somewhere. I could guess most of the musicians represented, but there were a few that stumped me, hence the need for a key.....kinda like "Highlights Magazine." (for kids,ha) Average Rating:![]() |

Roy Orbison: Black & White Night [Blu-ray]ReviewsThis is another great Blu-ray concert... the video is superb (black & white, but superb), the audio is even better (dts-HD codec + 96/24 resolution- really doesn't get much better than that). It's a great concert by a legendary artist with (still) legendary vocals... supported by numerous other stars all on the same stage. The man might be gone, but truly his music and his talents live on. Bottom line: If you like Roy Orbison, and want to see a great concert presented in the best possible way using Blu-ray technology, then pick this disc up... you won't be disappointed. The concert is great but get the blueray version for best sound and visuals. And, you'll never believe all of the musical luminaries in the band and chorus. Roy was at his best. This blu-ray made me wish I had been there. All the other stars in this program made it all the more special. I play it over & over. One of the best sessions ever. Great sound, great voice and what a load of fantastic talent to enjoy time and time again. Roy does the hits and there are no misses. And what a great backing band. This DVD should be in every music collection and one day I will have the Blu-ray version as well!!!! Only purchased this as it was cheap. What a great concert. Was not a great fan of Roy's but this has certainly changed my mind. The who's who of entertaining in the background vocals, makes you realise just how old this concert is. Sounds fantastic. Elv1s 30 #1 HitsReviewsYep i dig the best of Elvis. But i wouldn't say i like all his albums. Most of his best songs are here.Probably my favorite is Kentucky Rain. With His Latest Flame second, but there is a whole stack here to choose from. This album provides exactly as titled: hits, not just singles. Of course, a lot that came from Elvis was a hit. He never missed! Elvis 30 #1 Hits, is a great cd. If you liked Elvis Presley you'll love this cd. The latest attempt by RCA to cash in on their Elvis catalog, "Elvis 1" is by far the best-sounding compilation of Elvis' hits ever assembled, and will guarantee his presence in the racks of even the smallest CD stores for years to come. It is a testimony to Elvis' immense talent and charisma that, 25+ years after his death, a collection of his hits can be hip, relevant, and a smash. Elv1s 30 #1 Hits was a great compilation of Elvis and was perfect for the medium for which it was purchased. Average Rating:![]() |

Live At Hollywood High/The Costello Show Vol. 2ReviewsWhat started as an EP insert in original pressings of "Armed Forces" LP's finally gets a full release, and it's a corker. The young Elvis Costello had finished up his third album in two and a half years, and he was coming into an early peak with The Attractions. At this 1978 concert in Los Angeles, he and the band rip through cuts from the first two albums plus a preview of the new one via "Accidents Will Happen" and "Goon Squad." It's easy to forget just how vibrant the seventies version of Elvis Costello was. Only on "Alison" and "Party Girl" (and a pumped up version of "Stranger In The House") does he and the band slow down over the concert's 70 minutes. He was also still heavily into his 'revenge and guilt' phase, which means that driving numbers like "Lipstick Vogue" or "Pump It Up" dominate the setlist. Even so, signs were already showing that he wasn't going to get pigeon-holed into the angry young man thing for long, starting the show with a piano-only version of the brand new "Accidents Will Happen." Elvis is already planning an array of re-releases and vault titles under the moniker of "The Costello Show," with this one and Live at the El Mocambo already out. I can already tell you that Hollywood High kicks the El Mocambo CD out of the pool without contest (more songs, better performance and better sound), and I can add that I am really curious what tapes he will be uncovering. A great snapshot of an incredible band early in their career. This live album was recorded during the time between "This Year's Model" and "Armed Forces". The performances are great. It is a decent recording. The mix could be a little better - i.e. I wish the bass guitar was louder, but the original source tape might not have been a multi-track. I really prefer this live album over "Live at the El Macombo" simply because there isn't some drunk guy yelling "Woo-hoo!!!" throughout the entire show. Wow, this cd is a blast. If you're metabolism needs a kickstart this is the classic live early Elvis cd to have. All the hits are hear (no pun intended), plus great remastering, clear as a bell sound, and the playing is spot on. An excellent buy for the money. And is that a Gretsch Elvis is wielding in the photogs?? Didn't know he played one. This recording is definitely one for the ages!! Just listening to it added 10 more years to my life! This is Elvis at his finest, angriest time. Good sound quality (considering it was 1978!). Great set list, all classics. Well worth buying!! ONE WORD OF CAUTION....do not buy this disc thinking it is part 2 to Live At Hollywood High!! It says The Costello Show 2, but this is just the same disc under a different title!! Elvis Costello could be tempermental during the early days. There was one concert where he did the entire set, the audience wanted more. Costello took his guitar, put it against the amp and turned it up all the way creating an ear piercing feedback to make the crowd leave. Ah the salad days of youth. Elvis Costello and the Attractions also put on some brilliant performances in their early years and some of them were recorded well. This is one of them. Elvis and the Attractions were on fire at their Hollywood High shows. We finally get all of the songs from the set nicely mastered by Dan Hersch (who also mastered the nine songs from this set that appeared on the expanded two disc "Armed Forces" that Rhino released a couple of years back). The sound is extremely good. My only complaint is the bare bones booklet which only has the credits (in incredibly small type) for this release on it. No notes from EC telling us about the show (although he HAS done that before)and, for a change, it would have been nice to hear from the Attractions about the show, their memories (if any) of the performances. Hip-O needs to spruce these sets up a bit with liner notes for their future sets but, aside from that, this sounds fine and it's nice to finally get this released offically with good sound and the entire set list. Elvis on Tour [VHS]ReviewsThe product arrived fine in the condition stated and has withstood several watchings without a problem. This documentary shows Elvis as he starts to go down a destuctive path. You can sense in certain scenes that his heath is in decline. It gives a "behind the scenes" feel as to what life on tour with Elvis was like. He sings great and looks cool as only he can. Hello to all Elvis Fans. I purchased this VHS and reviewed it i must say it was everything i thought it would be. I am so glad that i have this even though it's on VHS it is a great video and lots of great performances by Elvis. If you don't have this by all means get it before it goes away for good. I don't think this will ever be on DVD and if it is it may not be the same quality as it is on the VHS. Every Elvis collector should have this in your collection. To see all the cities and the excited fans waiting to see him in concert and for a time you forget that this is a video you are watching because you get caught up in the excitement of Elvis going on stage and 2001 Space Odessy is playing and you know he is about to appear. Buy it before it's to late to me it doesn't matter if it's on VHS i'm glad i purchased it for my collection before it no longer exist. Anne We follow Elvis from city to city. He dons jumpsuits and gains weight. We see his increasing boredom. Elvis disintegrated after his divorce from Priscilla. Lyrics became morbid. Burning Love was the last big hit. His records were good until the end, but there was little recording the last two years. The film got the Golden Globe Award for Best Documentary. It is chaotic but worth it because it is candid Elvis. The quote from his father about guitar players not being worth a damn would not have come out a decade earlier. Elvis' songlist is filled with hits by other artists. His own Lawdy Miss Clawdy sounds as sexy today as it did in the beginning. Elvis in 1972 was still at the top of his game, lean and mean and energetic. In "Elvis on Tour" we get a fantastic snapshot at the King in top form; I only wish 1 - that it was available on DVD and 2- that some of the concerts with clips included in the movie were available on video in their entirety. Very highly recommended! Average Rating:![]() |

Change of Habit [VHS]ReviewsI never received this order and Ive made 3 attempts to communicate with MovieMars and they will not respond in any way...will never buy an item that is associated with MovieMars again. Actually, I think the movie is as much about Elvis' being a doctor in the ghetto as the spiritual struggle that the nuns have to face, especially once they're out of the habit. I mean, there they were, locked up nice and cozy in the convent and because of the Church's project to service the poor, must remove the habit and "fit in" society. Sister Irene particularly was struggling had finally left the religious life. At the end, Sister Michelle had to decide to get married or stay in the convent and take her final vows. Since Elvis, in real life, was very religious I'm a bit disappointed he didn't at least explore converting to Catholicism. Yes, yes, I know, "why" would I like seeing nuns in their old habits? Right?! Well, Not many in today's world see nuns at all! Thanks to Vatacan II and the enemy within the church! *(Not unlike the creeping enemies within our own government!) This movie, like all movies with Elvis was ok, but a little corny. I mean I saw him in "Blue Hawaii", when it first came out and I was all alone in a huge theatre. Not because the movie was bad, but because I went early on a weekday when everyone was at work and I was just a kid. It cost me a whole half dollar! *(50 Cents!!!) That was a lot back then, especially to a kid! I used to play hookey from school and hide under our steps after buying potato chips, ice-cream, chocolate milk and some candy, all for about 25 cents!!! Maybe a little more than that, but not much! The truant officer never found me! lol Times were great, back then! At least to a child. I had no clue we were on the brink of distruction, bought on by the election of the Kennedy clan, who are the ones who really distroyed America. *(Ted with his "1965 NEW Immigration policy" that opened the flood gates to the terd-3rd world and open border fiasco we see today!!!) Anyway, this movie was a reminder of hippie-liberal times that turned the nation away from traditional values to the new anything goes era. It's nice to see Mary young again too! Who ever would have thought she'd be on Elvis' hot babe list?!! I miss the nuns of yesteryear in their habits, especially the ones at St Anthony's and the large hats of St Vincent de Paul nuns. Now you have slave women walking around in burkas all over the place instead!!! Not Christian nuns! The world's upsidedown! Thanks a lot, brain dead Ted! The murderer and blood sucking leech of the Senate that road into politics on the coattails of death and prospered much ever since! This movie brings back times of chaos and soul searching. Finding out who we were and changing times of very selfish people. We could have done without the songs in the film though. I do recommend this movie. It shows those who were not born to see the 60's & 70's what it was like, somewhat. Only a documentary shows that though. Personally, I think this is one of Elvis' better movies. He plays a more serious role than in many of his other films and is well cast beside Mary Tyler Moore. The storyline is interesting and more intense than you might expect. I removed a star from the rating because the film was marketed as lighter fare than it should have been. I don't think that the actors were allowed to create the depth of character that would have taken the film to the next level. This a pretty good movie not my favorite but got it to complete my collection!!!!! Average Rating:![]() |

Elvis tried something different in his final narrative movie but the results are oddly similar to his usual '60s formula. Here the King plays a doctor working in an inner-city free clinic, playing host to three Catholic nurses (who are really nuns incognito)... |
Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977; middle name sometimes written Aron)a was an American singer, actor, and musician. A cultural icon, he is commonly known simply as "Elvis," and is also sometimes referred to as "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" or "The King".
In 1954, Presley began his career as one of the first performers of rockabilly, an uptempo fusion of country and rhythm and blues with a strong back beat. His novel versions of existing songs, mixing "black" and "white" sounds, made him popular—and controversial—as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. He recorded songs in the rock and roll genre, with tracks like "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock" later embodying the style. Presley had a versatile voice and had unusually wide success encompassing other genres, including gospel, blues, ballads and pop. To date, he has been inducted into four music halls of fame.
In the 1960s, Presley made the majority of his 31 movies, most of which were poorly reviewed but financially successful musicals. In 1968, he returned to live music in a television special, and performed across the U.S., notably in Las Vegas. Throughout his career, he set records for concert attendance, television ratings and recordings sales. He is one of the best-selling and most influential artists in the history of music. Health problems, drug addiction and other factors led to his death aged 42.
Early life
Elvis Presley owed his ancestry to diverse European ethnic strains, primarily British and German; Presley's lineage also included some Cherokee descent. His father, Vernon Elvis Presley (April 10, 1916–June 26, 1979), had several low-paying jobs, including sharecropping and working as a truck driver. His mother, Gladys Love Smith (April 25, 1912 – August 14, 1958) worked as a sewing machinist. They met in Tupelo, Mississippi, and eloped to Pontotoc County where they married on June 17, 1933.

Presley was born in a two-room shotgun house, built by his father, in East Tupelo. He was an identical twin; his brother was stillborn and given the name Jesse Garon. Growing up as an only child he "was, everyone agreed, unusually close to his mother." The family lived just above the poverty line and attended an Assembly of God church. Vernon has been described as "a malingerer, always averse to work and responsibility." His wife was "voluble, lively, full of spunk" and had a fondness for drink. In 1938, Vernon was jailed for an eight dollar check forgery. During his eight-month incarceration, Gladys and her son lost the family home, and they moved in with relatives.
In September 1942, Presley entered first grade at Lawhorn School in Tupelo. He was considered a "well-mannered and quiet child", but sometimes classmates threw "things at him — rotten fruit and stuff — because he was different... he stuttered and he was a mama's boy."
On October 3, 1945, he made his first public performance in a singing contest at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show at the suggestion of his teacher, Mrs. J.C. Grimes. Dressed as a cowboy, Presley had to stand on a chair to reach the microphone and sang Red Foley's "Old Shep." He came fifth, winning $5 and a free ticket to all the Fair rides.
In 1946, for his eleventh birthday, Presley received his first guitar. He wanted a bicycle or rifle for his birthday, but his parents could only afford a guitar. Over the following year, Vernon's brother, Vester, gave Elvis basic guitar lessons. In September 1948, the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, allegedly because Vernon—in addition to needing work—had to escape the law for transporting bootleg liquor. In 1949, they lived at Lauderdale Courts, a public housing development in one of Memphis' poorer sections. Presley practiced playing guitar in the laundry room and also played in a five-piece band with other tenants. One resident, another future rockabilly pioneer, Johnny Burnette, recalled, "Wherever Elvis went he'd have his guitar slung across his back...He'd go in to one of the cafes or bars... Then some folks would say: 'Let's hear you sing, boy.'" Presley enrolled at L. C. Humes High School where some fellow students viewed his performing unfavorably; one recalled that he was "a sad, shy, not especially attractive boy" whose guitar playing was not likely to win any prizes. Presley was made fun of as a 'trashy' kind of boy, playing 'trashy' hillbilly music." Other children however, "would beg him" to sing, but he was apparently too shy to perform.
In September 1950, Presley occasionally worked evenings as an usher at Loew's State Theater—his first job—to boost the family income, but his mother made him quit as she feared it was affecting his school work. He worked again at Loew's in June the following year, but was fired after a fistfight over a female employee. He began to grow his sideburns and, when he could afford to, dress in the wild, flashy clothes of Lansky Brothers on Beale Street. He stood out, especially in the conservative Deep South of the 1950s, and was mocked and bullied for it. Childhood friend Red West said: "In the sea of 1600 pink-scalped kids at school, Elvis stood out like a camel in the arctic. ... [but] ... his appearance expressed a defiance which his demeanor did not match..." Despite any unpopularity or shyness, he was a contestant in his school's 1952 "Annual Minstrel Show" and won by receiving the most applause. His prize was to sing encores, including "Cold Cold Icy Fingers" and "Till I Waltz Again With You".
After graduation, Presley was still a rather shy "kid who had spent scarcely a night away from home". His third job was driving a truck for the Crown Electric Company. He began wearing his hair longer with a ducktail;the style of truck drivers at that time.
